Counselling and psychotherapy

Counselling is designed to enhance self-awareness, build resilience, alleviate stress, address perceived challenges, and improve overall functioning, fostering a more fulfilling life.

Psychotherapy, on the other hand, aims to help individuals modify and resolve distressing thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors. It is an effective approach for enhancing mental health and well-being, alleviating symptoms associated with mild to moderate mental health conditions. When combined with medication, psychotherapy can also support the recovery of individuals affected by major mental health disorders.

I bring extensive experience in helping individuals address a wide array of intrapersonal and relational challenges, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Panic attacks
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Stress
  • Life transitions
  • Couple Issues
  • Family Distress
  • Self-esteem Issues
  • Trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Support for LGBTQ
  • Tics and Tourette syndrome
  • Body-focused repetitive behavior (hair puling, skin picking, nail biting, lip biting).

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy for OCD

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy is a specialized type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and is the gold standard for treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). ERP involves gradually confronting feared thoughts and situations while resisting compulsive behaviors. This method helps break the cycle of anxiety and teaches the brain to handle distress without depending on compulsions.

I have extensive experience using ERP with clients affected by OCD and provide a supportive, structured approach tailored to each individual’s needs, helping them build confidence and regain control over their lives.

Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)

CBIT incudes following components:

  • Psychoeducation
  • Self-awareness training
  • Relaxation training
  • Establishing a tic hierarchy
  • Formulating a competing response for targeted tic

Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) is a structured, evidence-based habit reversal treatment typically delivered over eight sessions. It is most effective for children, adolescents, and adults who are motivated to manage their tics and possess some awareness of their tics and associated urges.

As a licensed and certified CBIT therapist, I am dedicated to supporting individuals through Tourette’s therapy with expertise and compassion. For additional information about CBIT, Tourette syndrome, and available resources, please visit Tourette Canada at tourette.ca.

Body-Focused Repetitive Behavior

The Comprehensive Model for Behavioral Treatment (ComB) is widely regarded by experts as the most effective approach for addressing compulsive skin picking and other Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs). This advanced habit reversal method focuses on identifying specific triggers for behaviors like skin picking or hair pulling, creating individualized recovery plans, and actively supporting clients in their treatment journey.

As a certified ComB practitioner, I bring extensive experience in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and habit reversal training to support both youth and adults in managing and overcoming BFRBs.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective, structured approach for treating a variety of mental health disorders and helping individuals better manage stressful life situations. Whether used independently or in combination with other therapies, CBT offers practical tools to support mental well-being.

CBT is an intensive, time-limited (typically 12-20 sessions), and problem-focused therapy based on the principle that thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected. By examining how individuals interpret and evaluate their experiences, CBT guides clients in recognizing negative thought patterns and cognitive distortions that impact their mental health. Through this process, therapists assist clients in challenging dysfunctional thoughts, exploring alternative interpretations, and adopting healthier ways of thinking and responding in daily life.

CBT has proven effective in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including:

  • Mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder
  • Anxiety disorders, including specific phobias
  • Panic disorder
  • Social phobia (social anxiety disorder)
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Sleep disorders
  • Eating disorders
